Short Course
Description
This program is designed for persons who have demonstrated an alcohol abuse pattern, but do not fit the traditional alcoholism treatment model or may need evaluation for a higher level of treatment. Abstinence is required while in the program and recommended for the future. This program includes assessment, self-evaluation, education and written assignments. Staff will focus on assisting the client in evaluating how chemical use has disrupted their life. The bio-social and psychological implications of abuse will be addressed through video, lecture and discussion. The client will develop a plan to prevent future substance related problems, and at discharge, the client will demonstrate motivation to "use" their plan. Evaluation may lead to a recommendation of a higher level of treatment.
The program involves a 1-hour assessment, eight to twelve 1 ½ hour education/evaluation group sessions, and an exit interview where client's plan is discussed.
